Professional Statement

I am a compassionate, enthusiastic educator with a strong commitment to student life-long learning with an excellent background and success in helping students become successful. I strive to perform in a position which provides the opportunity to utilize my abilities in various areas of the creative arts as well as further develop my skills. My teaching philosophy includes focus on developing arts skills, collaborative behavior, problem-solving skills, and leadership qualities in students. I began my career in the Spring of 2010.

Professional Experience

Findley Elementary School of Des Moines Public Schools – Des Moines, Iowa, 2013 – Current
Art Instructor for grades K-5  Duties include researching, preparing, organizing, implementing, and assessing student learning including a strong emphasis on arts integration across the content areas.  Further duties include planning, classroom management, parent-teacher conferences, advisory, and working with district professional development.
Arts Integration Specialist for grades K-5 undertaking the national program, Turnaround Arts, which is a grant funded into 8 schools across the country.  Duties, continued from instruction, include collaboration with general classroom teachers to develop instruction that integrates the arts into core curriculum.  Duties also include co-teaching experiences for students and adult learning (professional development) for school and district staff.  Further duties include monthly cohort-wide meetings, national communication and professional development.
Demonstration Teacher (TLC) for the district.  Duties include opening up classroom for peer observation, video taping instructional practices for mentoring other educators, and working with instructional coaches to master the Marzano framework.
Extra Curricular-School Coordinator for Half-Pints Poetry and Art Club.   Half-Pints Poetry is a co-taught after-school program in which students use literacy and performance standards to express themselves.  Art Club is a before-school program in which students explore visual art techniques and collaborative projects.

Webster City Middle School – Webster City, Iowa, 2010 – 2013
Full time position, grades 5-8.  Duties include researching, preparing, organizing, implementing, and assessing student learning.  Further duties include planning, classroom management, parent-teacher conferences, advisory, and working with district professional development. Extra activities include being a member for Character Counts, Technology Advisement, District Art PLC, Middle Level Exploratory PLC, Technology PLC, and District Technology Committee

Waverly-Shellrock Jr. High School – Waverly, Iowa, Spring 2009
Full time long-term substitute position for grade level 7.  Participated in grade level PLCs, preparing, organizing, implementing, and assessing student learning.  Duties included planning, classroom management, parent-teacher conferences, advisory, and working with district professional development.

Other
Student Teaching experience includes both in state and internationally placements.  Outside school activities include chaperoning and leading groups of students on educational trips across the country including to locations such as Washington DCExtra experience includes being a summer camp counselor both for a day camp and overnight.
