2nd Grade Cool Colors and Swirls

2nd Graders continued their projects surrounding ornamental corn by creating their background piece.  Unfortunately we were interrupted by intruder drills and fire drills that we had some odd timed days and are kind of stuck finishing this part of the project up.

We first started with a review of cool colors; talking about how we used warm colors to paint our corn.  Breaking away from the grid of our corn, we used circles to free up our control and make abstract designs.  We moved quickly – my whole intent was for the students to have a chance to break away from thoughtful work and be okay with a free approach.  We will fill up our whole large paper with these colors which will really make our corn POP from the page!

I know a particular mentor of mine will enjoy this project based on the way it looks – she sure loves swirls; cough cough, Ronda!
